Social media art challenges can be fun, so I’ll be participating in #inktober2018. Inktober is a challenge for the entire month of October, simply creating an ink drawing a day using the official prompt list and sharing it on social media. Using the prompt list isn’t a requirement, it’s really just about practicing with ink every day for the entire month.
I’ve used ink before, but it’s not my go-to. I’ve done some still life studies of glassware, trying to capture reflections and light on glass. The two featured below were achieved with liquid ink and a wash brush. The piece above is ink, too. It’s a different technique achieved with a marker: stippling. It requires a series of dots and patterns to create shading, depth, and shapes. My subject matter for this piece couldn’t have been more basic. On the table before me was a mess of images I’d torn from magazines. So essentially, it’s a drawing in marker of a collage.
With my somewhat limited experience with ink, I’m jumping into the challenge of improvement. Join me as I share everyday (because what good is art if no one else sees it?). I’ll try to stick with the prompt list, but I won’t limit myself to it. I’ll share my work on my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages.
